For centuries the Dalits have not been given education opportunities by the so called upper caste Hindus. Whoever tried for it,they were punised. And through the punishment others were were given a lesson not to repeat the same.
The education is the key to success and new ideas. Education is the basic to any human being, but the oppressors have used this to control the massess from being awakened. This is not true only of our country but also of many others. In the similar way, the Ranas in Nepal did not allow people to get education. In the Philippines the Spainish did not allow the man to be educated. In India the Brahmans did not allow the Dalits to have education. All these Oppressor's policy was to keep the people in 'slavery and darkness' and continue enjoy their 'supermacy'.
But the time has changed and the constitution of our nation has given freedom to all to get the education. Thank God for that. Thanks to the social reformers, like Pandita Ramabai, Raja Ram Mohun Rai, William Carrey, Dr Ambedkar, Gandhi jee and Nehru jee etc who contributed to the cause.
Today with the help of Education department and other national and international agencies education work is progressing and the slogan "sab padhey, sab badhey' (let all read and let all grow). has been implemented all around. Many children of Dalits and other castes are going to school but still it's not time to rejoice.
But as things are changing, some people of the same "oppressor's" thinking does not want others to be educated and grow and have the right to live and survive. For that reason these people killed a Dalit young man who was intelligent and tried to excell in life and society. This is the thinking of guru Doroyonacharya of Pandavas, who when came to know that Eklawaya had excelled in bow/arrow skill through his personal attempts, comparing to a royal family member called Arjuna. So this guru asked Eklawaya to cut his right thumb and give it to him guru as 'guru dakshina'. The main idea was to stop this (of lower status) boy getting ahead the high family. This guru forgot to encourage this boy and to have two ("Shishya") excellent disciples. He feared the royal family, and not God. He killed the person and his talent alive and discouraged him and others for doing the same, so that only a handful of poeple would succeced.
When we we have this kind of gurus to follow and are being taught as models in the schools, what can we learn from them. It is the same thing which happend in above mentioned case. However, I do agree there are some exceptions of good teachers.
These people did not give opportunities in the past and want to do same today. Sad thinking. We call India our mother and all Indians our brothers and sisters in our pledge but in reality we dont accept all Indians our brothers and sisters. Our ideas are narrow minded and blinded by the wrong philosophy.
They forget India can grow only if all her citizen get education and take part in nation building. All the people have differen gifts and talents to use for the nation and for society devolepment.
May God give wisdom to the people of our country to see that nation's building can be achieved only through the education of all. And may all recognize that no single caste or people can devolep alone and be a great contribution as a whole. May everyone come to their senses and And be proud of our nation as a whole.
Thanks to the people who are contributing to the social awakening and illitracy emancipation.
